LAPO DE MARZI

Head Coach and Founder of the De Marzi Tennis Academy

Passionate, driven, and persistent, Italian born Lapo brings world-class expertise to every session on court. Before founding the De Marzi Tennis Academy, he spent years coaching WTA star Camila Giorgi as sparring partner, physical trainer, and touring coach- including during her 2023 WTA title run in Mérida, Mexico. Alongside his time on tour, Lapo built his reputation at leading Italian academies and clubs, where he coached ITF professionals, national juniors, and performance squads.

Combining elite match analysis, video breakdown, and sports science, he pushes players beyond their limits- a key reason many call him one of the best tennis coaches in Sydney for high-performance development. Lapo also holds Italy’s premier advanced coaching qualification (Maestro Nazionale), supported by specialised certification in tennis performance and conditioning and postgraduate sport-science study.

But Lapo isn’t just a coach- he’s a competitor at heart. Having played at the highest level in the Italian Major League, achieving a top national rank of 2.6 (UTR 11.49 equivalent) and competing in ITF 10–15K tournaments, he knows firsthand what it takes to perform under pressure.

Relentlessly passionate about the game, Lapo lives and breathes tennis. His mission is simple: to inspire every player, from aspiring juniors to seasoned competitors, to chase excellence with the same fire that has defined his own career.

  • Maestro Nazionale (Federazione Italiana Tennis, Italy)

    • Italy’s top advanced coaching qualification, equivalent to a High Performance Coach in Australia.

    • Certified to train elite juniors and professional players.

    • Requires years of training, practical experience, and advanced exams in technique, tactics, physical preparation, and psychology.

    • Thesis: Analysis of the Differences in the Return of the Service of the Top 10 ATP Players.

    Second Level Tennis Physical Trainer (Federazione Italiana Tennis, Italy)

    • Specialist qualification focused on strength, conditioning, and injury prevention for elite players.

    • Comparable to an advanced strength & conditioning coach in Australia, but tailored entirely to tennis performance.

    Bachelor of Exercise Physiology, Sports Science and Health (Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy)

    • Equivalent to an Exercise & Sport Science / Exercise Physiology degree in Australia.

    • Focused on tennis biomechanics and performance optimisation.

    • Thesis: Biomechanic Analysis of the Forehand of the Different Types of Male Tennis Players.

    Master of Sciences and Techniques of Sport and Preventative and Adapted Motor Activities (Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy)

    • Postgraduate degree in sport science, strength & conditioning, and adapted physical activity (injury prevention, rehabilitation, and tailored training for athletes).

    • Focused on tennis performance and athlete development.

    • Thesis: Biomechanics of the Tennis Serve: a Window into the Unknown.

    Carla is a lawyer and co-founder of the De Marzi Tennis Academy, bringing strong organisational skills and dedication to the team. She oversees operations, scheduling, and communications, ensuring every session and program runs smoothly. From lesson enquiries to academy support, Carla is committed to helping players succeed both on and off the court.
